Trash Bash & Tree Spree success!

In 2018, climate scientists stated that we only have 20 years left to make a difference before there is no turning back.

At Illuminet, we know the importance of needing to make a change now! As part of the 10 year anniversary of Illuminet Solutions, we implemented a Treevolution initiative that involves planting trees. Part of the initiative is to host an annual Make a Difference Day (MaDD) that involves doing an environmental power hour of litter picking.

This year, Illuminet set out to hold the annual MaDD by creating a Trash Bash & Tree Spree event. Our goal was to encourage 100 people to spend one hour picking up litter, aiming for 100 pieces each, which calculates to 10,000 pieces of litter. All the while, setting a target of £7,000 worth of donations, which will be going to our partnered charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, in order to plant 1,000 trees.

Illuminet had a great response from the internal team, family, friends, and even clients! We have received massive support from people signing up to join the team locally or even remotely to doing an environmental power hour of litter picking. Not to mention everyone who has been donating very generously to the Just Giving PageWe want to say a BIG thank you for all the support!

The target was to raise £7,000, which is equivalent to 1,000 trees. We managed to raise £8,055  which is equivalent to 1,151. This is incredible! Well done to everyone who got involved!

A large group of 30, including the internal team, family, and friends, got together locally at Holes Bay. Having gone through the Health and Safety and handed out the equipment, provided by Oceans to Earth, everyone was in high spirits especially since the weather was beautiful. Within just 1 hour, it was a shock to see that over 30 bags were filled to the brim, with litter.

Those who had done their power hour of litter picking remotely, also stated how shocked they were with the amount of litter they had picked up. It can be confidently said it was a lesson to us all, and everyone involved will be more mindful of the environment around them.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to all our corporate sponsors below. Without them, we would not have had the privilege of organising such a successful day!

Thank you to Oceans to Earth, who were fantastic in making sure that we had all the equipment required, and even providing litter bingo for the kids!

Thank you to Josslyn Bond and Eleanor Wood for organising the event and acting as Team Leaders on the day. Thank you to our other Team Leader, Greg Wood (CEO) and the
First Aider, George Sharp.

What can you do to make a difference?

We want to encourage YOU to do the same! Each day set your self a challenge of doing something that will help the planet.  If you do not know where to start or how to challenge yourself, Ecoodle provide daily challenges and inspirations to help you take care of the environment.  Collectively, if we all start making little changes, this will result in a big difference!
